Sue Higgins became Envision’s Education Trustee in 2017. Sue has extensive experience in education, as a teacher, head of department, teacher trainer and  deputy headteacher, first becoming a headteacher in 2000.  Her substantial and successful  school leadership experience has all  been gained in state comprehensive schools in challenging circumstances and she has always been passionate about closing the educational achievement gap for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds .  Most recently she was Executive Headteacher of Parliament Hill School in London and, under her leadership,  the school gained a national reputation for innovation in pedagogy, student leadership, inclusion and award-winning well-being provision.   As an outstanding school leader who was selected to become a National Leader in Education, she has worked with many first class organisations and developed many exciting partnership projects – including with Envision.

As a consultant she currently provides school Improvement services to schools in Newham, Camden, Lewisham, Slough. Sue also works widely as a trainer,  mentor and qualified coach with leadership teams, governing bodies  aspiring and established school leaders. Sue is a school governor in Haringey and also a Trustee of another education based charities, Tender Trust Arts .

As a headteacher, I was able to see first-hand the impressive work Envision does with young people. The projects provide authentic and engaging opportunities to focus on developing critical employability skills of teamwork, communication, problem-solving and public presentation in unfamiliar settings. Most importantly it hooks into  young people’s need to make a positive difference in their communities and, often, beyond their location.  They learn and grow in important ways through the Envision experience and graduate with greater confidence, a stronger sense of personal agency and hope.
