Bruno Reddy decided to join Envision after making a career change from teaching. He was looking for an opportunity to continue working with young people and wanted to make a difference around environmental issues:
“Envision has been more than just a volunteering opportunity– it brought together my interests and provided me with a unique opportunity to help make a difference and equipped me with new skills and experiences that have inspired me to take up new challenges.”
CathyFor Cathy the Envision experience was not completely what she had expected. Having worked with a range young people in the prison service, she felt prepared for anything, but trying to get a room full of chatty girls focused on a project was a completely new challenge!
Although the team took time to focus they ended up creating a wonderful climate change mural with the younger years. Cathy really enjoyed watching the quieter students come out of their shell and get involved:
“What I found amazing was watching individuals emerge as leaders in the group and really seeing their personalities come out. With some of them, I would never have seen that potential back when we started, but by the end they had really grown in confidence.”
DanielDaniel decided to volunteer with Envision because the principles and ethos of Envision’s work related to his interests. He worked with a group of students who made a film about negative perceptions of young people in the media.
“It was very rewarding to see what they could achieve in such a short space of time and to be part of the whole process. I developed my knowledge of environmental issues, social issues and more pressingly, the issues faced by young people in 21st century Britain. I also developed my skills in motivating others to succeed.”
