Turning Britain Green
![]()
On Thursday 17 June a team of dedicated gardeners from Quinton Kynaston, Plumstead Manor and Seven Kings Schools joined forces to turn a disused car park behind Kings Cross Station into a community garden.
They were joined by eight very enthusiastic EDF Energy volunteers who were doing their bit to celebrate EDF Energy's Green Britain Day.
Dividing into three teams, the first team built 20 new beds, which will be used to grow flowers and small trees. Helping them was a team shovelling wood chip that was then spread in between the pots to achieve a natural, countryside feel. The final team were made of two groups, a solid crew shovelling soil into the new beds and a team planting.
Despite the hot sun and the exhausting work, everyone felt great at the end of the day when the concrete space was no more and in its place was the makings of a lovely green garden!
Huge thanks go to Thorsten Gieser, Nature Ranger Project Officer, the team from EDF Energy and everyone from the three schools who took part!
