Do you want to be an Olympic champion?

Vcashpoint is offering young people a fantastic opportunity to celebrate London 2012 and make a difference to their community at the same time. Grants of up to £2,500 are available for 16-25 year olds in England who have ideas for volunteering projects inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Your idea needs to fit in with one of the Olympic and Paralympic Games themes, which are: Sport, Health, Culture, Education or Environment.  So it doesn’t have to be a sports project (although it can be). Anything is possible as long as it will help other people, the environment or your community! For full details and to apply, click here.  The deadline for applications is 6th September 2010.


Young People’s Advisory Group

Do you want the opportunity to influence decisions that affect the lives of children and young people? If so, apply to join the Children and Young People Advisory Group. The Office of the Children’s Commissioner for England is looking for young people to give their view on government decisions about children and youth. In return, you will receive practical training and experience in public speaking, media and research skills. You will also be able to meet the Children’s Commissioner, Maggie Atkinson, in London with expenses paid. Applications are open to anyone aged 8-18 and eighteen people will be selected from across England. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 31st August 2010. Rate your youth service!

Youth Mark is the quality award for organisations that provide services for young people. The purpose of Youth Mark is to make sure young people have a say in how services are run. So we want YOU to join and have your say!  Youth Mark is currently recruiting 15 - 19 year olds to become “Youth Mark Assessors” for their 2nd and 3rd October 2010 training course.  Assessors will then choose who deserves the Youth Mark of approval, and suggest how projects can improve. Participants will be able to boost their CV with an AQA accredited qualification and a V50 volunteering award. Apply online or contact the Youth Mark team: 0208 347 2365.


Bee in it to win it

Right here, Write Now 2010

Put your writing skills and imagination to the test by entering the Parliamentary Press Gallery Writing Competition. Open to Years 10 -13, writers must simply produce a piece, no longer than 500 words, about a political event or figure to apply. By showcasing your writing talents, applicants could win a day at Westminster to meet a range of leading journalists and political figures to further develop skills and knowledge in democracy and politics. 'Re-Evolve' communities with youth charities

If you are aged between 18-25 years old and would like to continue a sustained charitable spirit, Vital Regeneration Charity is offering internships involving the chance to give back into disadvantaged London communities and help young people find and learn about careers options and education. Applicants can gain valuable experience in communications, marketing and project planning. You can find out more about the post and how to apply here

 

 


Aged 18 to 30 and want the ultimate wilderness experience?

If you are between 18 and 30 years old and are an Envision grad you could spend six days in an extreme, wild part of Scotland as part of a group of 8 others also in seek of the ultimate wilderness adventure.

This opportunity would usually cost £850 but the Wilderness Foundation are kindly offering Envision Grads a bursary which means you will only have pay £150!

Your Idea. Your project. £1000 to make it happen.

This money is up for grabs for up to 30 Envision Grads who are aged under 19 and have an idea to make a positive change in their community.

Dream school

What is wrong with school? Jamie Oliver and Channel 4 want to find out from you, in their new documentary…   They are coming together to set up a school with a difference. So if you left school knowing you could have done it better then they want to hear from you! Live in Leeds, London, Newcastle or Bradford? Interested in Journalism? Want to Campaign for Change?

Headliners are supporting young people to Campaign for Change through journalism and get their voices heard. If you join one of their programmes, they will teach you to how to use broadcast media equipment and support you to produce your own media packages about issues in your local area.  Find out more and apply here.

Project 1,000

Interested in fairness, equality and human rights?   Then you could become a young equality leader as part of Project 1000.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) are looking for young people who have been active in their community and as you have done your Envision project you would definitely qualify!

You’d be invited to high profile campaigns and events, policy and research work, and receive training and development ops.  In the past, participants have taken part in a series of activities: from attending seminars and events, to meeting the Prime Minister.

10 weeks in India, Nepal, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa or Peru

Platform2 is a global volunteering scheme for 18 to 25 year olds who wouldn't otherwise be able to visit a developing country and get involved with global issues of justice and poverty.  Run by BUNAC and Christian Aid, Platform2 pay for your flights, accommodation and most other costs.

If you're accepted on to the programme, you will have a training day before your trip overseas, 10 weeks volunteering in one of the countries above with a team of other volunteers, followed by a three day residential on your return. This will include workshops and opportunities for you to figure out how you want to express your experience.
