Young Dragons at Canary Wharf
Envision Grads joined leaders from EDF Energy, Burberry and DEFRA in grilling this year's London Pitch 4 Change teams at a very flash Canary Wharf location. Sophia Lewis and Amrit Kaur Lohia joined the panel deciding which teams were most deserving of funds to turn their projects into reality.
Sophia says: 'We were thrilled to be part of such an inspiring event and to be able to give other young people the chance to complete their projects, just like we did last year. We know how much hard work can go into projects like these and believe that everyone should have the opportunity to express their ideas and put them into action.'
Sophia and Amrit were part of a team which made a successful bid for funds to turn an area in their school grounds into a 'Future-Proof Garden' which would help new students integrate into the school. They had plenty of advice for teams about how to keep their costs down and consider longer-term issues such as maintenance.
Amrit says: "It is fascinating to see how young people come up with such unique projects, this year and last. It was amazing to come back as a Dragon and take the opportunity to advise other young people on their projects, encourage them and tell them what we learnt from our mistakes so they don't make them either; it was a valuable experience I will never forget!"
They added: "The teams thoroughly impressed us with their innovative and unique ideas and passion for making a difference. Their pitches were eneteraining as well as informative and we enjoyed each and every one of them."
The event was also hosted by David Gordon, chair of the GAP, who kept Dragons and teams alike under control.
