Envision Leeds Launch Event
On Wednesday 4th November over 80 students representing 14 schools and colleges from across Leeds came together to celebrate the launch of Envision in Leeds.
The event opened with live music from the fabulous Leeds based band Trio Kalinka followed by a hearty welcome from Envision Founder and Director, Nick Nielsen, who travelled all the way from London to meet the new Envision Team students.
The afternoon was packed full of activities, workshops and skill sessions for students to enjoy. Students could choose to take a class in urban dance, take part in a drama workshop or try out their DJ-ing skills. There were also classes on recycled fashion, MC-ing and junk percussion.
As well as trying out different activities students also got the chance to learn about a range of issues including homelessness, fair-trade products and climate change – all of which should help students in developing their Envision projects over the course of the academic year.
The day ended with a performance from the students who took part in the junk percussion workshop and some inspiring words from Jeremy Piercy, the founder of the retail chain Shared Earth. Congratulations also went to Memory Nissi Naube from Primrose High School who was announced the winner of the Envision Trivia competition and received a brand new iPod shuffle for her efforts.
The event was a fantastic start to what promises to be a really spectacular year for the new Leeds Envision office. Thanks to everyone who attended the event – we’re looking forward to lots more great events throughout the rest of the year.
