Envision
enables young people to realise their capacity to make a difference
|
|
Envision
was founded in 2000 by four young people. The organisation aimed to
challenge the general perception that young people are apathetic and
disengaged - unconcerned with the challenges that face Britain and
the world in the 21st Century. Envision's simple model supports young
people to develop the skills, awareness, confidence and motivation
necessary to lie at the heart of positive change.

|
Envision's
principles
|
|
1.
|
Within
every individual lies the desire and capacity to create positive change -
all that is required is the opportunity.
|
|
2.
|
Learning
by doing is more effective than simply learning through instruction.
|
|
3.
|
Positive
change is brought about by examples of individuals and groups making a
difference, 'the ripple effect'.

The
Envision Programme
|
|
...supports
a key age-group, 16-19 year olds in schools and colleges, to develop their
own social and environmental projects. The projects that result not only
achieve positive change but inspire their creators, and those around them,
with their collective capacity to make a real difference. Press here for

Envision
History
|
|
Since
piloting the programme in five schools, the Envision programme has expanded
into over 100 schools and colleges across Greater London, Birmingham and
beyond in 2007-2008. We are currently working directly with over 1,500
young people and keep connected with thousands more via the Envision
Graduate network.
|
|
Citizenship... Envision makes Citizenship
education come alive. Our programmes provide opportunities for young people
to exercise their power to make positive changes at all levels of their
communities. Envision is a Learning and Skills Network (LSN) Post-16
“Citizenship Champion”.
|
|
Volunteering... Our programmes are youth-led,
and provide participants with an interesting, relevant and genuinely
empowering volunteering experience. Our approach is inclusive and we engage
young people who might not otherwise get involved. In 2006 we were selected
as a national “Goldstar” project demonstrating excellence in volunteering
practice.
|
|
Sustainable
Development...
Envision empowers young people to live in a more sustainable way and to
influence others to do the same. Envision is part-funded by Defra to
support young people to take a lead on living more environmentally
sustainable lifestyles.

The
Organisation
|
|
Envision
has two regional offices - in London and Birmingham, with 13
full-time staff supporting hundreds of adult volunteers. Its board is made
up of senior figures from the voluntary, education and sustainable
development sectors.

|
Funding
|
|
Envision's
work is funded by various Government, trust and private funders. Presently
these include v, the Office of the Third Sector Gold Star, DEFRA,
the Jack Petchey Foundation, the City Bridge Trust and the Big Lottery
Fund. Envision is unable to work without the support of individuals
inspired with its vision. For more information about how to support the
