“ We gave young people the opportunity to show the community that we can achieve something positive when we come together.”

Challenging Stereotypes
Raines Foundation School, Tower Hamlets, London
The Envision team at Raines Foundation School decided to stand up against the pointless gang violence that was becoming such a trademark of urban youth culture; personally affecting them and their friends and generating negative perceptions of young people in the wider community. They brought a diverse cross-section of young people together to celebrate their talents in a unique showcase event. The team independently sourced funding, venues, local music, poetry and artistic talent for their event at The Tab Centre in Hackney.
Eco-Schools Project
Camden School for Girls
The Camden School for Girls team worked hard to achieve “eco-school” status for their school. They set up a committee of 6th form students, lower school students, teaching staff and grounds staff.
As a result the school has a recycling and composting scheme that is led by staff and pupils, new wildlife habitats, a kitchen garden, new benches and bins, bird boxes in trees, & a notice board for eco news.
In May 08 the school held an event to celebrate their achievement of a Bronze eco school award.

UK Child Poverty Campaign
BSix College & St Michael and All Angels Academy
BSix College and St Michael and All Angels joined forces with Save the Children and created a campaign that they took to Parliament Square. The purpose of the campaign was to challenge the Government on keeping its promise of halving UK child poverty by 2010. They met with Jane Kennedy, MP and Financial Secretary to the Treasury, and MP David Blunkett and discussed ways in which the government could work to reduce poverty.
Recycling
Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School, Birmingham
The team at Bishop Vesey’s School in Birmingham was concerned by the lack of recycling facilities in their school. They decided to give recycling bags to each form and organise a weekly collection.
As a result of this, the team was fortunate enough to visit the Smurfit Kappa plant in Birmingham and have a guided tour showing them the recycling process. The Envision group also received the Web Guru’s Best Environmental project Award.
